Get a DIN
The person has never been a director. What comes before DIR-12?
The short answer
DIR-3 allots the DIN. SPICe+ can also allot a DIN to a first director at incorporation, so a separate DIR-3 is not used for that person. After the DIN exists, KYC and only then DIR-12.
A person who does not already have a DIN. A second DIN for the same person is not permitted.
VerifiedAct-sourced — Section 153 and the DIN rules. SPICe+ allots a DIN only inside incorporation.
Step by step
1
Search first
If this person was ever a director in India, the DIN already exists. Do not apply for a second one.
2
DIR-3
PAN, Aadhaar, photograph and address proof, certified by a professional. Skip this only when SPICe+ is allotting the DIN inside incorporation.
3
Sign, upload, pay
The applicant submits the web form at mca.gov.in as a business user. The SRN appears in My Application. Download the PDF, sign it with the DSC already associated to the DIN, DPIN, PAN or membership number on the form, upload that PDF against the same SRN, and pay.
4
Then the appointment
DIR-12 is a different form, on the company, after this DIN is active.
Forms
- DIR-3 — Allotment, where the person has none.
- DIR-12 — Only after the DIN is active.
Papers
- PAN
- Aadhaar
- Address proof
- Photograph
Where this filing fails
- Filing DIR-12 for a person with no DIN fails. Filing DIR-3 for a person who already has one creates a duplicate-DIN problem, not a faster appointment.
